Witten by ELMER I. NOCHESEDA, the book traces the history of Pateros from being a visita of Pasig to that of a town known all over as the home-ground of balut. It unearths the earliest mention of balut and penoy in ecclesiastical annals, Spanish contact records, early vocabularios and travelogues. It presents how a small town responds toits changing ecology as manifested in the expressions of its devotion to Santa Marta, the patron saint of duck raisers. Its ritual of 'pasubo sa buaya' hints of its pre-colonial past and acquires newlayers of meaning through the years.

The book is a labor of love jointly published by Fr Roy Rosales and Mayor Joey Medina. The book was launched on February 8, Friday, 4 pm at the Pateros Catholic School ground. It is the bispera Of Sta Marta Fiesta which is on February 10, Sunday.
